Having fun while working

I started building this blog to learn how to; not because I think that there is any one thing that I want to promote ;other then things that I enjoy doing I mean is that not what a blog is for.My father has been a private investor for many years and many of my friends run public firms traded on both the T.S.X and the new york stock exchange and after 30 years of listening to the pros that I know ;I have not really become to enjoy it rather I like what and who I know in the industry.I have had many friends over the years that have asked me to look after there portfolios and only by the grace of god;did I manage to make them money. I was very lucky not to lose there money;and even more so to make a little for myself . I did this for a few years and then retired from this field as it became a little to risky. I can only now gather as much information from the contacts in the industry that I know and post what I and those close to me are doing.

I will say that as far as money goes; I have not made a great deal; but over the years I have been Lucky enough to meet some of Canada:s richest people. My greatest sales job was when I was in New Brunswick and I lost my wallet and I needed gas money to get back to Ontario . The local Irving stations would not cash a out of town check without I.D. so given that I was always a salesman I went to the home of Irving oil ; to speak to Arthur Irving SR. I was told that I would need a appointment even if I where the head of state; I told the front reception to ask if he would see a costumer ; I got in to see him and spent at least a hour in his office trying to convince him to cash a out of town; and province check. I enjoyed my talk with him and I went down in History with my banks and friends; after I told them my story . There is a great deal more to this story but I am giving a short and to the point version. I still have the check that went though his bank account that sits in my office as a reminder trophy.

When I was younger my father would tell me how he really liked the way Gerry Schwartz from Onex did business. He would comment on how the papers revered to him as the Rodney Dangerfield of bay street. My father believed this to harsh. one day I told my father; I would go in and try to arrange for them to talk; I was always very good at that. I did what I do best and made it happen. I know that my father and sister at the meeting of the shareholders presented a carving that still sits in there board room.Onex made my family a great deal of money; and again I learned how to make certain things happen . I never have meet him only in passing in there lobby. Money for me has never been the motivator as much as the challenge of just getting though to them. I know longer but myself out there the way I did in the past; as I find I do not have as much to sell .
When I was 15 years old ;I would sell product to the Eaton's department stores I learned a great deal then and was responsible for the opening of the Shoppers Drug mart chain;Zellers united cigar; and many more then I was "Fired" for over selling . I was also a printing salesman that was not to bad ;I was paid really very well from my opening of the Tim Horton doughnut franchise that I serviced for maybe four years. There was a chain of pizza stores called Gino's; that I serviced and opened that made things a little easier during my younger years. I have since lost my urge to sell as I find it a little boring; but have retained my natural ability that I was born with.
